Default auto to 5 speed swap

    Hello,
My name is Johan and I am thinking about doing a 5 speed swap to my 1995 540i. It now has a automatic in it and is beginning to have problems. I have a line on a 5 speed from a 94 530i V8 that I believe will bolt in. Please let me know if it wont. I understand I have alot of work to do with peddles and slave and master cylinders new clutch kit and drive shaft etc. What I'm really wondering is what happens with the electronics from the auto after the 5 speed in? Will they work still? Do I have to change out some electronics or is there something I must do to make this work. The car is new to me and I got it at a great deal I think. The car runs very strong but the tranny is slipping. I would like to hear all the pros and cons to doing this and some how to's by you guys. Thank you for all your help and I look forward to seeing what there is on this subject. I did do a search but didnt find anything.
    Johan

Thanks Denton, This can only be very helpful. It looks like im going in. I have the transmission and several other parts. I'm just a bit worried about what to do with the electronics from the auto. Do you know what it will take to make the trans program go way? And is there anything else that will cause the car not to run or run bad because its not hooked up? Thanks again

You have to shortcut 2 wires in the plug for the autogearbox, or else it won´t start. That is all I did of electrical stuff and have had no problems.

gale posted a very nice writeup about the swap on the 535. she details the electronics portion of it all, and i could be mistaken but it should be a very similar procedure for your car.

    Default Thanks for the info

I wanted to thank everyone for the info. Does anyone know which two wires need to be shorted or which to pins? I didn't think about the cruise control stuff.
What does all this in tale? The dreaded peddle swap, I thought it was pretty much a straight forward thing. The auto cars have the mounts, holes etc. for this install doesn't it? I did this along time ago on a Bavaria and also the fuel injection switch from a 3.0I. I don't want to get way over my head this is a doable thing with all the parts right .
