    Default e34 Touring: Sunroof...please don't die!

    Gday all!

The twin sunroof on my e34 touring has a few issues. It started by not closing down from the tilt position (although both roofs were still sliding OK. A few days later, the front roof still wont close from the tilt position...but it's now also having a really hard time sliding, and there are a few nasty noises that have come with that too

Is this fixable? I'm dreading needing to fork out some serious loot for this repair!

If anyone can give me any sort of feedback regarding this I would really appreciate it!

    Thanks

If that doesnt work, you have to take out your headliner and lube the motors. Mine are becoming rather sluggish also and the outer seals leak into the car under extremely heavy rain or the automated car washs.

might not be the outer seals, might be the drains, check and see if they are clogged with a piece of wire.

Thanks to everybody for replying so quickly!

I'm going to do as suggested...clean and lube. This makes sense as the motor seems to be working OK.

I've also booked the car in to my local Webasto sunroof expert...so if worse come to worse, I'll get the sucker fixed! Can't live without them twin babies...it's a major reason I went for the touring over the sedan!

I'll post up once it's working again.

    Thanks again!

I know my front right drain is blocked from the bottom but I don't know where it is to drill it out

So it's been a few weeks now and the roof has pretty much died. It just went crunch after a few attempts at diagnosing the issue. According to my local sunroof techs, I'm gonna need a bunch of bits brought into Australia from Germany, so in total I'm looking at total cost to repair of about $1500 aud (or about $1250 usd), with half going on the parts and half on the work.

If I didn't love the car, and especially those twin panels, I don't think I'd bother with the expense. But, I just have to do it! Can't live my life knowing I've got a trick roof I can't enjoy.

If anyone's interested, I'll post the result once the work has been done. I think I'm looking at a few weeks before the parts arrive, but hopefully it's sooner rather than later.
