    Default OT: alternatives

Sometimes when driving I see people in other cars and ask myself "would I drive that?"

If not a BMW what would you be driving?
As far as something practical and affordable.

Here is my list in order of first choice to last. Well at least last to the point where im not sure about anything after.

    BMW
    Mercedes
    Mini
    Porsche
    Audi
    Volvo
    Lexus
    Infinity
    Subaru
    Mazda

    e39 Touring

    e34 Sedan

67 Chrysler Imperial with mobile Director option. ( 180 degree swivel front seat and rear table for front passenger and rear passengers to lunch/play cards over). Friend of my Dad has one, and it is an extremely cool and rare option.

To replace my E34 as a daily driver...
These are parctical and realistic alternatives, not dreams.

'01 E38 740i sport BMW, White with the individual option black/white two tone.

    '98 W140 CL600 Mercedez-Benz White with white/cream interior

'03 E39 540i BMW, White with two-tone cream or white with black trim for the interior

I would almost rather have this as a track car, but...
    '88 928 S4 Porsche , blue with white interior

Truck, well, I'm not much of a truck guy - but from what I know and would need, I think I'd get a '93 SR5 Toyota Pickup or a 4runner from a few years later.

From your list I'd choose an MB. A Maser Q-porte one day because two time E32/750il ownership taught me nothing about elderly exotics.
My alternate car is usually an elderly domestic chosen more for hauling rather than style or enjoyment. Currently a '91 Olds station wagon, the "Big Tuna".

I think people mistook my list for a list to pick from.

Its actually my personal list. Too many cars for me to list that I would not mind having, so I just went by brands. Like for example I like all the BMW series except for the compact. Most Mercedes are not bad in my opinion, and a 944 was what I was going at before I found the e34.

I may be mistaking but manufacturers just seem to have a look, style, feel, and quality to them thats general for all the cars/models. Honda didn't make it because I had 3 before the e34 and well... they just didn't make the list.

hey, I hope that wasn't directed at me... I could pick up either of those 60's cars for about the price of an e38 750il. the verts are hard to find and expensive... not the Hardtops.

On a shoestring budget? Peugeot diesels more than likely - I miss my old 205DTi, tiny car, big engine, drove as well as the e34 (I kid you not, torsion bar rear suspension for the win!) - if more space was required I'd probably have a 405/6 and just deal with the electrical problems.

Bigger budget, modern Porsche/Audi/Volvo - the older T5 volvos though - they're awe inspiring power wise, moreso if tweaked!

    Default I DUNNO.....good question...

after riding in other folks cars the E34 just seems so solid.

new altimas maximas are nice (coworker's cars)...but for the price, the E34 is still outstanding.... the maxima isn't 5 times the car, though it's at least 5 times the book of my car....

...guess I'd like to try the Mini Cooper...a Vette...Mustang GT...

...or an old 4x toyota pickup/4runner.
