Default Help My CEL came on

Ok this is the first time this has happned ever since I bought the car almost 2 years ago. Never once has the CEL came on even for a second. So I'm driving home as normal nothing actually abit slower and calmer than normal. I get home pull in the driveway stop the car get out to open the garagethe car is idling the drivers door is open I'm just moving stuff around in the garage. The car was left idling for MAYBE 3 minutes...TOPS. So I get in the car to pull it into the garage and I notice that the CEL is on....No Idea why I don't notice anything out of order in fact I sort of surprised that its on at all because I didn't think that part of the cluster wasn't working. So I just backed the car into the garage and turned it off. Is there any way to know what the problem is. I know I havent really given you much info but I figured I'd go out and restart the car in a little bit see if the light is out. I really am in a bad way here because I just spent a bunch of money on it, fixing all the..er...most of the suspension foibles. I really need some advice
    Thanks

If you cannot read them that means that you have a bad bulb or no buld at all. Older E34's don't have a check engine bulb wired.
    1. Turn the ignition key on (without starting the car) and depress the accelerator pedal to the floor 5 times within 5 seconds.
    2. The check engine light will remain lit for 5 seconds, blink off, light for 2.5 seconds, goes off for 2.5 sec. and will start flashing the codes.
    3. Each code is separated by a 2.5 sec. pause. A 0.5 sec. blink then nothing means the end of the code reading. To read them again, depress the accelerator pedal 5 times again.
    Clear the codes
    1. Read the codes. At the end, make sure that the 1000 code (short blink and nothing) is present then depress the accelerator for at least 10 seconds.
    2. To check, depress the accelerator pedal 5 times within 5 sec and make sure that the 1444 code (no fault stored) is present.
    Car code display
With the key off, press in the OBC display reset button on the dash below the tach (the one that makes your readout disappear). Hold it in for 3 seconds and turn the key to position 2. Release the button, watch all of the car codings and then the final light show. That is the only way I want to see the tach go that high.

OK just did the stomp test First off Jehu thanks so much for that info that is a huge help rminds me why tis is one of the only two boards I even bother to be active on...Now if I did the stonp test correctly which I think I did because the CEL did its little blinky blink show with the 2.5sec intervals...and the result....NOTHING...NO code came up nothing nada zip zilch...my goddamn car is possesed. I cant figure it out so what does this mean..more of the cluster being totally ****ed up or what?

i think you should do a stomp test first to find out which error code has been triggered, then do a reset and see if it gets triggered again. i got a fuel injector code once that hasn't come back since i reset the system... not yet at least...
