Hi Captain. I've just had a look on realoem and the M5 type calipers are fitted to these vehicles:-
    E34 540i SEDAN, U.S.
    E34 M5 3.6 SEDAN, U.S.
    E34 M5 TOURING, Euro
    E34 M5 3.6 SEDAN, Euro
    E34 M5 3.8 SEDAN, Euro

I looked for the front left caliper as an example, and the part number is 34112226873. I hope this helps you find a suitable donor car.

    Cheers,

    Shaun M

    Hey Shaun,

    This website says something different:
    http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/brakes.htm

So I went to this website, and it showed the same info:
    http://bmwfans.info

I'm not seeing anywhere that shows the E34 M5 3.6 and the E34 540 to have the same calipers etc.

Where did you find your info?

    Thanks for the help!

I went through this about a year ago looking for E34 M5 calipers for my 525i Touring. When you do find them they are way expensive. Advance Auto, Autozone & O'Rellys all list the M5 calipers as the same as the 540 calipers for some reason. I just decided to get reman 540 calipers from Advance auto and they were like $75 ea with a core charge. Of course they got 525i calipers back but they never check. Then it's just a simple matter of buying the 540 rotors and everything bolts right up. Much better braking too. I've been planning on doing the same thing in the back but will probably wait until it needs brakes before I swap them out.

The E34 540 Sedans that have the same front calipers/rotors as the 3.6 M5 are the 540 M-Sports, of which only 200 were built. The regular 540's have slightly smaller brakes.

The only difference between all E34 Iron callipers is the width allowance for disc/rotor size.E34 M5 rotors are 28mm,I fitted 540 rotors as I could not find them, even from the stealer. The size of piston diameter is the same throughout range. The E34 M5 3.8 alloy calliper is a whole different ball game,Porsche 968 with different rotor. This only applies to euro spec.

    525/530/535 fronts are 302mm x 22mm

    540 fronts are 302mm x 28mm

    M5 & M-Sport fronts are 315mm x 28mm
