Default If the Kickdown switch is disconnected (till I can get a new one)

... Is it going to be engaged, or un-engaged?
Or if I've got that backwards, can I put a jumper in the connector to close the circuit?

My switch appears to be broken, and I'm sick of shifting at redline for every gear.

    Thanks!

Got a used one from a 1990 or 1991 535 if your interested. Not sure if they are the same part so check fitment with dealer.

    DennyG:
Looks like the part is a different number.

I was guessing on your production date, but here is a link to the part number for my car:
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...34&hg=35&fg=10

Without knowing the exact production year for the 535, I can't be sure, but it looks like a different part number.

    Thanks for trying though.

Disconnect it and see what happens. If it still shifts at redline jumper the connector. Otherwise you are set.
