Default Newbie question about oil change.

Sorry about this question but i just got my 535 and it is my first BMW. When refilling the oil which guide mark do you go by on the dipstick? Is the notch the full point or is it the little bump above the notch. Again, sorry about this post but I just want to be sure.

    Thank you

Just add a full 6 quarts, which'll bring it right at the "full" point (between the 2 lines on the dipstick) after your done.

Check dipstick a couple minutes after you've filled it. If you've also changed the oil filter, drive the car a bit then let it sit and check the level again. When you change the filter there will be no oil in it and cirulating the oil, driving the car, will fill it and lower your level on the dip stick. Add more if the level is close to the bottom notch. I believe it 1.6 Quarts to go from the lower mark to the higher mark. Check your manual first though. Good luck.
