Default Check out Advance Auto Parts, BOGO oil sale

Just cleaned out the local AAP's stock of Valvoline Synpower 20w-50 yesterday. $5.88/quart usually. I got 18 quarts for just over $50 I dunno if it's a national thing but being a chain I'd imagine it is!

I just changed my oil (Mobil 1 15-w-50) to this stuff yesterday. Seems good in the M30. A lot is probably placebo (and just from the oil being new) but it seems smoother and the valves are a bit more quiet. The reason I went with this particular oil is that it meets BMW's current synthetic oil requirements.

I don't suppose they happen to carry M1 0w40? If so, they will be empty after I visit on the way home from work.

Thanks for the heads up, and I encourage everyone else to post good oil or other comsumable deals like this!

Thanks for the tip. I'm going there today!

I know you guys swear by the M1 0w40 and so did my car's previous owner. He said it helped the lifter noise. I don't like it, changed it over to M1 10w40 and now have no lifter noise and no noticeable change in fuel economy. Unless you live in the Arctic, I just don't see the point. Sure, I understand the 0w40 should only "go" to zero in extreme cold but my experience with lifter rattle tells me otherwise. I'm actually a GTX 20w50 guy at heart and won't run anything else in my '87 535is after nothing but trouble with synthetics in that car (bad oil pump, bad diff, etc).

Well, all of you E34 guys will hate me for saying this, but the Mobil 1 synthetic now goes in my new E46, and the E34 gets the "Cheap sale" oil nowadays, be it conventional, synthetic, semi-syn, whatever. So for the full synthetic, its really for my M54 engine.

Now, the reason a lot of people in the E46 community insist on the 0w40 is because Mobil 1 0w40 is BMW LL01 (or long-life) approved, and is what the 15,000 mile (approx) oil change interval is based on for the newer cars. PLEASE, I do not want to turn this thread into an oil change interval argument that will carry on for months. I don't do 15k changes, but its not the point.

In any event, I feel that if all Mobil 1 oil is priced the same per quart, if I'm going to get something on sale for the E34 (or any BMW for that matter), and the weight is in the range of what I want to run (0w40, 10w40, 20w50, its all the same down here in FL), I might as well get the stuff thats supposed to last twice as long.

So thats why I pick the 0w40, because down here in FL, I don't notice much difference between the weights. Unfortunately, 0w40 can be pretty darn hard to find at times.

No luck for me... went to the nearest one.. only like two 10w30 and one 20w50... and that seems to be all they carry... that's stupid. I know Valvoline also makes 5w40. Other store is really far away.

Follow up - THANK YOU! Just bought $120 worth of oil (20 quarts) for $58. Cleaned em out of 20w50 and most of 5w30!

    Awesome deal!
