    Default 540 fuel range

according to the manual my 94 should have an 80 lt tank.am getting 12 lt per 100k or 23 mpg.So should be good for 660k yet around 500k the light is on and range shows nearly zero yet will only take just over 60 liters to fill it.

was stuck in bad accident traffic tonight with the light on and wondering is there nearly 20 liters still in there.

appreciate if someone could tell me how there's is

    rgds,

You should keep your tank full.

You could well have a buggered fuel guage sender, but to diagnose it you'll probably either need to drain your tank with a pump and check how much fuel you can pull out.

The 540i did have an adjusted warning light iirc as it uses so much damn fuel... so I would expect the lamp to come on early. However 20 litres sounds excessive.
