O2 sensor and tubing

After a check engine light, I had a local shop run the codes: Oxygen sensor and associated tubing (cracked) needs to be replaced. What should this cost at a shop. How hard to do myself?

The O2 sensor can be had for <$70. It unscrews from the exhaust pipe and has a wire connector. Two plastic screws for the wire protector.Easy job. Just because the computer gives the code associated with a particular component that component isn't always bad. Having said this it is sometimes cheaper to guess with inexpensive parts then pay for a (hopefully correct) diagnosis.
I have no idea what "associated tubing" might be. If they mean the silicone covering for the O2 sensor wires, it comes with the sensor.

I meant the "air boot" when I said assoc. tubing. That's what the mechanic said. And, as far as connection of the wires goes: soldering, or just clip together? Does anybody have a procedure available? Thanks.

bump this thread. Does anyone know what the "air boot" is - in relation to replacement of the Oxygen sensor for a 1992 Touring 525i?

The O2 sensor plugs in.
The boot he refers to is the corrugated rubber intake hose that connects between the throttle body and the airflow sensor. These are known to crack with age letting unmetered air into the engine. This may be your only problem, a too lean mixture will set an O2 sensor code.
This attatches with two hose clamps, a monkey can change it in five minutes.
