Default Tilt steering wheel? 94 540i

The beemer's coming along nicely, and I'm almost done...

Should I have a "tilt" option on the steering wheel? Right now I see the button that either pulls the steeing wheel out (towards the driver), or pushes it in, but I don't see a "tilt" option.

In the manual, it shows a small lever on the underside of the column. I see a cut out area of the column itself where a lever would be, but don't see the lever.

Did it break off or something? was it ever there to begin with? how do I tilt the wheel downward?

I don't think we have that "tilt lever" you're talking about. Just the telescoping feature. Although, I may be wrong

Same here (non-US car) -- telescoping.

I don't think e34s came with the tilt option . My 535i has the telescopic handle underneath the steering column and my 540 has the electric telescopic adjustment stalk - the manual handle space is still there but no handle due to it being electric. Both are UK cars.

Telescope only, no tilt. You either have the manual friction lever underneath or the electric switch under the turn signal; not both. For some reason BMW started using the electric switch even on the 525i near the end of production. My '95 525i 5-sp has it.

The later model 525i's came with alot of the premium package stuff.

    Like the godly wide grill.

Yeah, for sure, but the electric steering column adjustment wasn't part of that package, it was just thrown in at the end or production without ceremony. All 1995 E34 models had the V8-style center grille and body-color lower panels, but of the six-cylinder models, only the premium package 525i had the wood trim with the gathered leather on the doors and leather door arm-rests, along with key-less entry alarm, cross-spoke alloy wheels, and onboard computer which all together made up the Premium Package.
