Default 5hp30 tranny question and opinion

    Hi to everyone

I need an opinion about changing oil in my tranny.

car is a 540iA 1994 with the 5hp30 tranny.Runs perfect. car has 171000km. Tranny was changed at 100000km with a rebuilt one in 2000.As per previous owner.

I bought all the service part for the tranny, filter and gasket for oil renew but run into an expensive finacial problem!!!! The dealer in my country does not have the Esso oil. ZF changed the 5hp 30 oil in 2000 from Shell La36.... to Esso....as per ZF tranny chart.

Anyway, if i want to order the Esso oil, it will cost me over US$1000 dollar for 20litres(esso oil only comes in 20litre container)as per ETK.the tranny uses 13ltr. they dont have in stock. or i should wait them order for someone else and then buy part of the 20litre

So what should I do? any one has an opinion

Ship it over from here... I think it is $20 a quart here... buy it from US company and ship it over... or whichever closest country that has reasonable price and shipping toward you.

Kentish, if your only going to change the filter and gasket you wont need the full 13 litres since a generous amount will remain in the transmission and torque converter. Unless you do a complete flush at least, I also dont think it is recommended to change the full amount all at once in a used transmission, I would just change the 3 or so litres that remains in the pan at filter change time.
