Default Valve noise detection with screwdriver

On M30 engine, listening with a screwdriver (no stethescope avaliable), what is the best technique for identifying the offending valve?

Default you can use a screwdriver or any hollow tubing you have laying around I have a

piece of 1/2 inch copper rigid tubing that I use that works fine and the closer you get the one thats making noise the louder the volume will be through the tube , screwdriver whatever...
Or if you still can't get it that way then you can do it like we adjusted valves on old hydraulic v8 engines with them running...
