2:98 I believe. the 3:15 is a half ass attempt of an upgrade. I dont know final ratios in the trand but my 530 with a 3:64 does 3000 rpm at 87MPH which is more than acceptable. I previously said 3K rpm at 83 but I was smokin crack at the time. I wouldnt upgrade just to the 3:15 mattering on rpms in final drive, seems a bit of a waste of time and money.

E34 530 uses a medium case differential, 540 uses a large case. The input shaft is different, as are the half shafts and wheel bearings. So out of the box, the 540 diff won't plug and play in a 530. HOWEVER, you can buy a CV that will fit onto the 530's shaft and work on the large case diff. So you just have to replace the half shafts and bearings or swap trailing arms with a 540/740/750 to make it work.

im confused. all i wanted to know is if i do the 5-speed swap will the 530i 5-speed driveshaft bolt onto my stock 540's diff. im NOT looking foreward to swapping differentials if that is the case.

After I did the 6 Speed conversion on my 540 - the 2.93 diff was pretty anemic when I was tracking it. I changed out to the 3.15 LSD from Koala Motorsports. They are the guys that did the 6 speed conversion in the first place. I talked to Brett there and he suggested the 3.15 ratio - and now on the track the car pulls through the corners beautifully.

I think it was a great upgrade to go with the 6 speed conversion. Nothing half-assed about it. - JT

How much is a 6 speed conversion? Any recommended places in the south of the UK to carry this out? is it just box, clutch, gearshift, pedal or is there more to it such as new ecu and loom etc? I am seriously toying with this idea at the moment because I think my torque converter is on the way out...
