Default AC Schnitzer Type III's, coated or not?

I messed up big time this winter and got caught running my 'summer' wheels with salt on the road. Then I put them away without washing them. Yeah I know, stupid me. Now I have little tiny spots of corrosion on all four rims and one spreading lake of corrosion on one rim.

My question to those who know:

Are the AC Schnitzer Type III (multi-piece) wheels coated on the shiny part of the rim? You know, the part the rubber touches?

Any suggestions for cleaning up my mess? I tried some light cleaning by rubbing with a rag and some light oil as it seemed some crud came off on my thumbnail when I rubbed it.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I believe those lips are machined and then clear coated

Unfortunately I think you are correct. I noticed the crud has spread over the edge and towards the wheel over this past week...

So what to do now? I could do the cheap fix, sand it down and treat it with something myself or take it to a rim specialist?

Wow!that looks bad!! I suggest you just bring it to the pro. I accidentally scratched mine last month and had it repaired pro. where i bought my ACS...good as new even the colors blends with the three.Don't go for the cheap fix..you paid good money for those rims, you might not get the exact color.your call anyways
