perhaps you've damaged the photo transistor in the cluster. located between speedo and tacho, above the ASC control light. guess you've to look for a new or used circuit board then.
While trying to rig up my OBC indicator stalk on my E32 730i i accidentally joined 2 connections on the indicator stalk with my finger.
The dash went very dim except handbrake icons, abs those ones etc and check control with the ding came up.
Now whenever i turn on my ignition car same thing happens (ding seems to cut off a bit) it lights up properly for a .5 second then goes dim again with check control. OBC does the same goes bright for a bit then nothing
Car starts fine and everything seems to work otherwise, tried swapping CCM and LKM modules and check fuses but no luck.
Any help appreciated
Cheers
Just swapped instrument clusters with my e34 same thing
dimmer as in cluster lights dimmer?
No luck, could it be a relay?
strange. i'd unplug the OBC and try again. don't think it's a relay, the whole dash / OBC / heating control illumination also works without the CCM and LKM plugged in. it's switched over the light switch and the dimmer only, with no relay in between.
which 2 wires do you've had connected? color?

Noticed the ding is quite sharp and seems to cut off not the usual dong. After it lights up the dash properly for .5 a second, only the battery, oil and park brake icon remain lit, i cant remember what it normally was on before. As e34 the all remain lit until you start.
I assume you talking about the wires that i joined?
