Thread: New EAT Chip = Not starting

Default New EAT Chip = Not starting

I tried to put in my new EAT chip for my 95 525iT today and lo and behold - no start. What a sad day.
I swapped the stock chip back in, and it started fine.
    I took special attention to:
    1. Discharge any static before handing the chip.
    2. Noted the factory chips's position and duplicated with the EAT chip (notched lined-up with socket).
    3. Disconnected the battery during the swap.

I did this all several times, back and forth and still the engine will not catch with the EAT chip. It appears to be getting no fuel. Runs every time with the original chip. It is the correct 413 DME. No bent pins, nothing visually amiss...

I have done a fair amount of chip tuning in the past in other cars, and have never had a no-start...

The only thing I did NOT try is reversing the direction of the chip.

Shall I contact my dealer (Abraham's Motorsport), Mark D. directly, or try something else???

Just got mine in my 95 525iT last Monday. No issues with mine. You do have to make sure that that the direction of the chip is correct. Notch in OEM chip and in MarkD chip must be in the same direction. Was worried due to the EWS II security system, but had no issues at all.

Glad to hear yours went well. I'm jealous, as I really want to try it out.
I made note of the notch first thing, and it was lined up all along.

I hope I just got a bum chip and can get it replaced...

marks chip, is it a sticker noting the direction or a physical notch? I'm thinking if it is a sticker it might have been placed backwards.

The chip is notched, similar to the factory chip. Lined up this way Mark's sticker is backwards.

Do you have an EWSII car? Make sure you've got the right chip for it, I told Mark exactly what stock chip I had (I have a 95 525i EWSII model which needs a special EAT version.)

    Hello Tom,

can you tell me what colour is the label on your DME that has the "0 261 200 413" part number on it? (no EWS = reddish brown, EWS = grey)

Also, what is the build date of your car? Those made on or after Dec 94 usually have the grey one, and that means it has EWS. The earlier cars do not.

That's almost impossible since it's shipped in conductive antistatic container specifically made for storage of static sensitive devices. Most likely, he has the wrong chip.
