    Default Oil level

I am having a problem with the reading that my oil level dipstick gives. When I go and check the oil level in the morning, the dipstick is usually awash with oil. After wiping it clean, inserting and taking back it shows about medium level. Wipe it again, insert, take out, and now it shows only a tad higher than minimum. I had this type of showings several times; each time the dipstick had been wiped really clean.
Couple of months ago I had the main bearing seal changed because of a leak. I overfilled the engine with oil. I think for some reason the dipstick does not always show the real oil level. car is on an even surface.
Long time ago while changing the intake manifold gaskets a mechanic had to remove the shaft through which the dipstick goes. He added some sealant while reseating it back. could that be the cause of this problem?

shouldnt have. i always give my oil level the max line at cold, as during operation there is a good amount moving around the engine.

I think I can slightly move the shaft right and left, very slightly.

Could be some sludge gumming up the works. It should be easy to read.
