Default Used Cluster In, New Problems

I Replaced My Cluster Yesterday. I Didn't Change The Code Plug, Just Simply Replaced The Whole Assembly. Below Will List Problems Before Switch And After.....

    Before:

Fuel And Temp Gauges Did Not Work At All.

Speedo Bounced Around A Bit, But Was Mostly Accurate

Tach Worked Most Of The Time, But Would Spaz Out From Time To Time

Lcd Displayed "coolant Temp" All The Time.

Shift Position Indicator Did Not Work At All Or Light Up.

    After:

Fuel And Temp Gauges Work Properly.

    Tach Works Properly.

Speedo Still Bounces Around A Bit

Lcd Display No Longer Displays "coolant Temp" And When Button Pressed, Displays "check Control Ok". However, Now It Displays "trans Program" When I Turn Car Off.

Shift Position Indicator Works For Only The First 10 Mins When Starting Car. It Also Displays An "e" In Front Of The Selected Gear. After Running For About 10 Mins, This Display Goes Completely Out.

    That Said..........

I Was Worried That My Tranny Might Be In Limp Mode After Getting The Trans Program Displayed. It Is Not. The Tranny Works Perfectly.

Is It Possible That I Need To Unplug The Batter To Reset The Unit? Are The Problems I Am Still Having Due To An External Source Other Than The Cluster? Cant He Speedo Problem Be Related To The Sensor? Where Is The Speed Sensor Mounted?

    Thanks......

Default Sounds like the display is working normally......

but I experienced similar symptoms right before I had to get my tranny rebuilt. First, take the shifter apart and clean up the contacts. It's easy and can help eliminate a lot of dumb problems, like the dash indicator appearing and disappearing. Should have an "E" along with "R, N, D", unless you put it into manual mode. Dirty contact may cause the tranny computer to flake a bit and when you turn the car off you get TRANS PROG.

Also, check your tranny fluid level, and if it persist, get a mechanic to check the tranny for codes.

The way your tach is sometimes bouncing inda leads me to believe that your speed sensor (hall effect) is slowly going - also a cause of the TRANS PROG message.

    Good luck.

Well, That's Just It. I Never Got The Trans Program Code Before. And It Was Instant With The New Used One. I Had Not Even Started The Car Yet When It Was First Displayed.

Where Exactly Is This Connector That I Should Clean? How Do I Get To It?

Speedo is likely sensor or other issue since the problem still exists.
Trans program ? Could be a problem, try Shogun reset. search this forum
E indicates economy mode of trans operation and is normal, s= sport M= manual
The two halves of the cluster may be loose causing the display to go off. Try pressing on the bottm of the cover to see if it comes back on.

Trying The Shotgun Reset...... Will Post Back......

I Do However Refuse To Believe That There Is Something Wrong With My Tranny......... Maybe The Connector Referred To Above.

I think you will find that it is the Shogun reset.

The ShoTgun reset is a little bit more drastic
    All the best

Default which year did the cluster comefrom

and which year is your car?

The difference and the coding plug could be the source of your problems.
