Default 540 6 speed conversion, electrical fiasco

The last time I work on the project was in November.

    http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/276021/

I connected the wiring leading to the starter solenoid wire to the wrong post. The car started but when I switched it off the starter kept cranking. It fried the starter immobiization relay, maybe some other electrical parts.

Then I got so busy I didn't have time to work on it until last weekend. Anyway I bought the starter immobilization relay and installed it. Actually I bought the SIR for 6 speed and auto. Neither allows me to start the car again.

I jumpered the wire leading to the starter solenoid to the battery positive lead. The starter turned. So the starter is still good.

Looked briefly at the EWS documentation. My 540 is built in 7/94. It has EWS-I. The descriptions say the SIR receives input from

    ignition switch,
    transmission range switch,
    general module,
    board computer,
    DME,

to provide 12 volts to the starter solenoid to start the car.

I know the ignition switch is good. It gives 12 volts to the SIR when I switch it on. The transmission range switch is out of the picture because I removed it. I jumpered the wire so the car is always at park. I hope my DME is not fried. Where are the general module and the board computer so I can find them to attempt diagnosis?

I think the General Module is the one under the rear seat - I've got a feeling that the General Computer is involved with the central locking so it would make sense that it feeds into the SIR.
