Of all those things, the ones that will improve the function of the car the most are:

    broken engine mounts
    rocker cover gaskets
    inner tie rods

And those things I don't recommend you DIY. Unless you wanna die.

I replaced both engine mounts and tierods on my 540 and it wasnt that bad. the drivers side engine mount was a real bitch but its doable. Rocker cover gaskets are next for me as well as new water pump and valley pan gasket.

Perhaps if you assume his level of mechanical aptitude to be as lacking as yours, then it might not be the best idea. That said, it's simply ridiculous to say that those repairs are more difficult to properly perform. They may take longer, but as long as the directions in the Bentley are followed, there is NO danger associated with a DIY on those items. From the stories here, from friends, and from my own experience, i would be more afraid of a mechanic's work than my own...

Both Alex and Marcus are correct and ThoreauHD knows little of what he speaks from his comments here but im sure he is good bloke.. DIY is not hard with these cars especially engine mounts and the like. if you are not a dyi person or are not prepared to learn then you are going to have an expensive time owning a BMW of any kind. It is not hard OK!. we have all been through it with the help of so many others here and it has all been done before a hundred times. Tips are; ask for help politely. dont expect replies straight away- we are all over the globe. Take it all on board and use the search function when ever you can. we are here to help and free of charge at that! dont get caught in the idea you have to pay heaps to get it fixed because its BMW. however if u need to we have a handfull of very experienced professional here who can do it if needs be. before you start spending ask here first!!!!! best of luck and welcome from down under

180 for a microfilter change and 1400 for radiator and fuel filters is just robbery. $30 for fuel fitlers and $15 for the microfilter. both are easy DIY.
