Took a AU$6K rebuild......but Man is it good now!

Well, it took some wrangling finacially but I pick it up on the 22nd of January (after the meet at Oran Park ) Filled it up, told the wife I'd 'be back later' took off and put some K's on it for the System to relearn what it had to do.

Question for you all: How many Kilometers/Miles does it take for the ECU to relearn after a transmission rebuild/Battery disconnect? I ask as I cannot find any reference about the time/mileage required. Yes it resets back to base (factory) settings, but how long before it begins to understand what you drive like in 'Adaptive' mode and 'Sport' mode? (540i with a 5HP30)

It drives really nicely now after a run out to Goondiwindi (on the QLD/NSW Border for our Overseas Friends) I stopped there, fueled the car (27 Litres was all I could get into it) had food, realized that I hadn't brought the camera with me (Crap!) Wound up the front stuts 1.5 turns for a total of two turns, Headed out of Goondiwindi, (Wingie, don't read any further mate, just move onto the next paragraph ) once in the 100 Zone dropped it into 'Sport 4' and got fairly up the SoB all the way along the Bruxner Hwy to Casino . Didn't bother to reset the OBD for average speed, lets just say it was.........Quick. Turned North to Kyogle and then onto Murwillimbar and back onto the Freeway to Brisbane. 1028Kms round trip door to door and I still had a little over 25 Liters left when I got home. I do this as a day run on the Ducati every now and again, lots of fun, definately Desmoquattro territory but you do have to keep your eyes peeled for the red and blue, marked and unmarked.

It hooks up soooooooooo nicely now drive wise, It's amazing what you get used to it really highlights how bad the tranny was before, lots of slip. The steering response with the front rebound wound up is amazing!! (Thanks Mr Project for your setting info, Still have to adjust the steering box freeplay though) Overall it really is great, the car drives completely differently now. I am taking it back in tomorrow for a fluid drop and a leak and line pressure check at the shop and then it will be getting a fluid change every 20,000Kms and Filter every 40,000Kms here after.

I also had to replace the duct between the MAF and the Throttle body AU$165.00 from the Stealer (only place I could get it in a hurry) it's been split since I bought the car and has been held together by 'The Force' (Black Nashua 357 Gaffer Tape....the REAL stuff not that 'Cloth tape' crap you get in servo's and Automotive stores).

It's a shame that I wasn't able to make the meet, but I feel that I will be prepared for the next one


Now I can go to a track day and fully sink the boot into it
