Bought a kit there for a 4HP24 E9 trans for an Alpina B12 5.0 E32.
ZF code
1043 030 040
We had a spare trans and the owner already prepared the spare trans with the new valves.
Then on Saturday we did the 'big operation', 4 E32 fans and DIYers. Had a pit and a hydraulic trans lifter, that was very helpful.
Started at 8 AM, we had the exhaust and driveshaft and trans out at 12, ready for lunch
New trans in by 6 PM and the big moment was there. Refilled new trans oil and engine was started.
Nothing moved at all, no R, not any other gear
At 8 PM we gave up for that day and wanted to start Sunday lunch time.
Then I got an email as following:
This morning I started checking.
First thing I checked was solenoid resistance from connector pins.
Everything looked OK so there was no chance of internal wiring fault.
Then checked oil pump pressure by undoing pressure check hole bolt.
Oil came out strongly when engine is turning so I judged oil pump is
working.
Then I wanted to swap valve body, I started to take off oil pan.
Opening oil pan and checked shift link, Ohhhhhh I found link was not
properly seated to its position.
I assembled valve body wrongly.
I took off valve body and reassembled gear shift link part correctly and
put it back.
Now it works OK. Car moves back and forth by changing gear.
All effort we made yesterday was now rewarded.
I drove to Highway for 30 minutes and everything looks OK.
No oil leak, no hard shock when shifting 3rd to 4th, 4th to lock up.
All the problem I had on old transmission was now fixed.
Thank you volks, sorry this trouble caused by my mistake.

Just do the valve body repair on your own, for your trans model I have the complete write-up on my website, see valve body rebuild.
If I can do it, you can do it too
I also used this company. They were very fast and had good communication with lots of parts in stock
What wheels do you have on that silver BMW?
I'm interested in the B12 engine more :P ... how much is the valve body repair kit?
We bought some more stuff from them, do not remember exactly, but I guess 250 or 300 $.Originally Posted by grave77
B12 engine?
My friend, last week I bought a crashed Alpina B12 5.0, has only 84.000 km.
Comes into our hall where we have the other B12.
Not sure what we do, either repair or part.
that's itchy :P .. how much would u estimate the engine price when sold as is? would it fit my auto tranny or do I need a manual tranny?
No idea what the engine would cost, but as only about 220 E32 Alpina 5.0 have been produced, they will be probably quite high, actually all used parts which are original Alpina are always pricy. But I do not want to sell any parts.
The E32 Alpina 750 came from factory with auto trans. The only difference is the E9 4 HP24 with a bigger torque converter as used on the 750iL and the Alpina B12, they lock already from second gear. I believe they anly difference is that plus a different solenoid for the lock, have compared the parts lists.
so that would make the original auto tranny on the E31 work with the B12 engine without any problem I guess. is the B12 engine totally different from the M70? or it's the heads only?
