    Default Coolant temp testing

I just bought a 1992 525i. I need some information before I make a purchase order (which will include the Bentley so please forgive this request). I believe my coolant temp sensor may be faulty but I don't know what the resistance range is to test it. The Bentley has this information, but I was planning on ordering the Bentley along with the sensor if needed. As an addede bonus, I also do not know where the sensor is located. I am new to e34's.

I know the thermostat was just changed by PO along with coolant service and fan clutch. It could be the gauge that is faulty, but gauges don't go wrong nearly as often as sensors I think. Symptom: sometimes guage acts perfectly normal, sometimes gauge never budges from the bottom left.

Any info on sensor location and testing procedure welcome.

the temp sender is just below the intake runner for cyl #1
    it is brown.
unplug and jump the two connector terminals creating a circuit with 0 resistance. Gauge should go to hot when ignition is turned to 'on'. if not, gauge is busted.
