Default increasing whistling sound as accelerate

I noticed a whistling sound that is fairly noticeable as is press the accelerator. It gets a little bit louder as I pump the gas further down. Any idea what this might be? It's gotten colder recently here in the midwest. Never noticed it before.
    Any ideas / concerns?

Check your intake for leaks. It is somewhat probable that your intake boot or filter housing is loose.

Actually, I'm having some kind of a funky whistling noise on my car, too. It's especially bad when the car is cold, but seems to disappear after the car is warmed up for a while. The thing is, it's not in unison with engine rpm. While I'm accellerating, the whistle starts to go up in pitch, but then starts back at the bottom of it's tenor or whatever and rises again. While decellerating it does exactly the same thing, but in reverse. However, I can be cruising along and then put it in neutral and rev the engine and this does not affect it, but it changes as the car decellerates. Which leads me to think it has something to do with the tranny. But this is NOT tranny whine. It is a very loud whistling which is erratic as I described. In fact sometimes I can be keeping a constant speed and the noise will go straight from high pitch to low pitch, back and forth. It sounds like some kind of a vacuum leak, but I haven't the foggiest where it's coming from.

While I'm driving around it is difficult to locate, almost like it's either in the center of the dash or it's in front of the dash, like in the firewall area.
