anyone?
Well I let my friend drive my car for about 2 minutes and of course something bad happens. He didn't wait the 1 extra second before the car was fully in "reverse" and gave it gas too soon. The car gave a little jolt then fully engaged. Now a few days later the tranny is making a whining/whirring sound. Kinda like rocks are stuck in the tires. It shifts perfectly fine but I'm hearing a lot more road noise than I used to. Torque converter Any suggestions on what it could be and how much it would cost to fix? Last time I let a friend take my car out for a spin. Car is a 94 530ia.
anyone?
replace the filter and gasket with OEM parts? should take 3.5 quarts for the change. whirring is usually from a wrong size O ring on an aftermarket filter kit sucking air.
ps you use dextron III fluid.

I had that done last year and it was fine up until this happened. Do you think the "jolt" somehow loosened the oem filter? Is it alright if I continue driving around without fixing it?Originally Posted by 632 Regal
anything is poss, i doubt it loosened the filter...NO have it checked out, small metal shavings can destroy any trans....better safe than sorryOriginally Posted by ByronC
a jolt can cause a bunch of stuff to happen. I would put the car in the air and inspect the guibo and centershaft bushings and stuff, then do the trans thing.

I've recently got a similar sound in reverse. Not a slight reverse but I had to back up about 20 yards and the noise previously described happened. I'm thinking that it is more likely to be the reverse gear rather than the guibo/drive shaft as there is no noise in forward gears. Does this sound right? Oh and the noise came from where the tranny is (under the shifter). Sorry-talking about 4 speed auto.Originally Posted by 632 Regal
