Default '97 528i, No Signal at OBD-2 Port...

therefore not passing NYS inspection. WTF? I remember the scanner wasn't working in the port, thought it was a bad connection or something. Went for inspection and the car isn't outputting info from the port. No MIL's or related issues. Tried again with Snap-On MT-2500 still no signal. Scanner powers up and reads no connection. Any ideas???

Some of the earlier E39 models had trouble with the pins on the plug connection, I believe there was a Technical Service Bulletin concerning the pins pushing back into the connector and not being able to make contact.

Might have a good look at the plug, you'll have to stand on your head for this one!

Here's the "pin-out" for the connector. Just remember when using a code reader or scanner, the ignition has to be in the "on" position, or else the reader will read error.
