hey i have an 89 520
the engine makes a loud banging knocking rumbling sound above 3000rpm. it dosnt do it at idle.
i have been told i need new shells. what are they and do they have another name because i cant find any info on them anywhere
easy job to fix?

maybe it is bearings! theres so many names for different things
the way it was described to me, is that the subframe comes out and then the sump and then what i need to repair is there. sound like bearings?
you can see the bearing shells going into the connecting rod "big ends" near the start of the video. It is not uncommon for the crankshaft to be re-ground to ensure each journal is perfectly round and not scarred up. This part cannot be done thru the sump.

ah i understand which part now. shouldnt be too difficult me thinks. if it needs a new cam shaft then ill break the vehicle for spare parts. are you saying i cant replace the bearings through the sump?
which couldn't be done thru the sump.
