Default Correct Size Belt for A/C

    1989 535i

2 belts are listed, 835 and 855 (that is length I suppose).
    What do I use?

    TIA

well I guess ill throw out. From all the belt problems I read about there is 2 sizes, not sure what the differences are (IE: componant differences) thus the confusion. Order both and return the one that doesnt fit. Sorry I cant find anything concrete but for some people the short one is too tight and others the long one too long.

Maybe Bill R or Winfred knows whats up.

The 835 will be a tight fit, the 855 can be a little loose. I use the 835 and walk it over the crank.

so why 2 belts then? There has to be a difference in componant issues or something.

heck if I know, big daddy.

Every parts database has a different sized belt for the car, even BMW. Maybe because the M30 was used in so many different models. Check the back of the owner's manual -- it's different than what's in ETK these days.

    For instance --

AutoZone will try to sell you a 1065 fan belt, ETK lists a 1040 (pretty tight), manual lists 1055, I think. I use a conti 1050 I found on the shelf, forget the P/N.

855 is the P/S belt. Autozone and other aftermarkets will sell you an 860 or 65. They'll throw you the same thing for the compressor. All of these will work, but the adjusters may max out, and depending on if the belt stretches over time, could end up squealing and causing trouble.
