Thread: How to Raise the idle on 540i

Default How to Raise the idle on 540i

Does anyone know how to do this? My idle is 450-500 most of the time in drive and tends to run a little rough. If I give it a little gas and bring it up to 600-700, it smooths out nicely. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Brian

Default Can you elaborate on the EAT chip improvement to idle?

I'm considering the chip and my idle is the principal reason I would buy it. My 94 540 also idles in the 500-600 range and would like it to idle, forgive for saying this, more like a Toyota. Car runs great, as one forum member said, above 700 RPMs but the idle is making me consider another car.

    Default idle control valve...........

round shiny cylinder on top of the throttle body. first remove fancy bmw engine cover. there is a small tube that comes from the top of the intake boot then connects to the icv. remove the idle control valve from the throttle body, remove small tube, & disconnect wire connection. clean thoroughly w/intake cleaner. a small moving part inside should move freely. they tend to get dirty & not move properly.

    Default EAT Chip Test

I posted my EAT Chip test results a week ago. Do a search on EAT or my ID.

    Default ICV Cleaning

    Tim,
Is this something easy to do when I'm changing plugs, since I'll have the cover off anyway?
