    Default M30 chamshaft setting question

Per Bentley, when a new timing chain is installed, the crankshaft is set at TDC per cast markings on the harmonic disk and the engine case, with the slack side of the chain on the tensioner slide.

The camshaft sprocket is set such that cylinder 1 is TDC, the sprocket dowel pin is at the ~7 o'clock position, and the sprocket bolts are aligned such that the top and bottom sprocket bolts are in straight line with the centerline of the front output shaft axis. (Since the engine leans toward the passenger side (US version), the camshaft sprocket bolts are roughly at 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock versus horizontal, but in the same plane as the centerline of the crankshaft.)

    Is this correct?

Look down from the top of the engine as if the motor sat perpidicular to the ground. If you look straight down from the top, the cam bolts should be directly in line with the engine. The cam lobes on #1 should both be down and the piston #1 should be at TDC as marked on the dampner.
