Default What is fault code 29

I remember reading this on the forum this morning on how to get the fault code i.e.

turn ignition on but do not start engine then pump throttle 5 times then the dash light (injector) comes on once then flashes the number of times for the fault code.

Mine flashes 29 times so what is code 29. I cant find it on the forum this time.

My research pulled up this document:

    http://www.europeantransmissions.com...BMW/bmwcod.pdf

but being a bit of a dunce with this sort of stuff I dont really know what I am reading but the error codes should be 4 codes such as 1234 where as mine is 1 29. Now is it the DME code (Motronic internal trouble codes) I am looking up as that suggest errror code 29 is the speed signal which would make sense as the car stalls when I am decelerating to a roundabout for example, however, it also stalls as I reverse out of a parking space for example. OK now I am just totally confused.

OK, I have finished my research and I am 94.29% sure it is the idle actuator, however, where is, what does it look like and how can I replace it myself?

OK, a bit miffed, I spoke to my local BMW specialist and they reckon that on older high mileage cars such as mine, 9 out 10 times it is the diesel injection pump and they go for about £600. Is he trying to fleece me?

What model/year/variation have you got? Can't see it in your profile!

    Cheers,

I don't think you are interpretting the stomp test properly.

    Go here: http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Trouble/Engine_codes.htm

    1. Turn the ignition key on (without starting the car) and depress the accelerator pedal to the floor 5 times within 5 seconds.
    2. The check engine light will remain lit for 5 seconds, blink off, light for 2.5 seconds, goes off for 2.5 sec. and will start flashing the codes.
    3. Each code is separated by a 2.5 sec. pause. A 0.5 sec. blink then nothing means the end of the code reading. To read them again, depress the accelerator pedal 5 times again.

its a 1995 (L) E34 525TD in Oxford Green (you should see it reflect the sunlight) with a manual gearbox and drives like a dream (except when in a queue such as the M6 car park, or when coming upto a junction).

Does that mean you live in the U.K.?
U.K. cars do not have stomp test ability, only U.S. cars.
Pls complete your profile, helps us a lot to help you

Engine, year, automatic or manual trans and all the details needed.
Best is you find out the correct month/year of production, because wiring diagrams are different. VIN decoder is on my website below where you find out these details.

Yes I live in UK. If stomp test doesn't work on UK cars why do I get the flashes when I do the stomp test? *confused*
