Hi guys. Just bought my 1993 525i 5-speed last weekend. Very nice car.
Want to change the tranny oil, but having trouble figuring out what to put in it.
I have searched here, BF.com, and bmwe34.net without any luck. Would much rather search and find the info now than have to wait for responces.. but no luck.
Do I put ATF or Gear Oil in it? Also, thought I remembered reading a guide on how to do this at one point, but for the life of me cannot find it.
Thanks a ton for the help.

ATF. There is a drain plug and a level plug. Both are 17 mm. So you don't need to know how much.

I have a bently on order.
OK, so ATF. Have heard good things about Syncromesh.. Any opinions?
Also, a pump is needed to pump the fluid into the tranny correct?
Thanks
with lots on hose on both ends, not the one the screws on to the bottle.
That way you set the bottles in a row and just move the hose as you filler up.

ATF in a manual gearbox does seem weird to me, but I am new to BMWs.. so.. OK..
It is a common ZF/Getrag thing, but not in most cases. A lot use heavier gear oils.Originally Posted by acidfire52

OK, is there a perticular ATF I should use??
The NAPA around the corner sells Royal Purple.. Should I use that? And what type? Dexron 3??
THanks, you guys are great.
