    Default Using the BMW Color System touch-up paint?

    How do you properly use the BMW 2 part touch up paint?
    Their is a basecoat and a clear lacquer.
    Please give me some advice.
    BTW: The car is a 97 528i Schwarz II color.

    This guy looks like he has it down to the T's....
    Probably a perfectionist, if not anal about his work.
    Should give you some ideas though.....

    Here's my way-

    First, get langka (sp?) or "paint leveler" (I got it at W@lm@rt for like, 8 bux)

    I've read the carcare online article, and that's overboard for me.

    Use the small brush in the paint thingee. Fill up the scratch, but be careful not to use too much. Let it dry for a half hour. Get a hankerchief or similar cloth with a very tight weave. wrap it around a credit card or similar flat plastic blade like a 1" spackle knife. Soak some leveler on the fabric and lightly go over the repair. You want to take away all the paint that is not actually in the scratch, and you want to get rid of a high spot. Move quickly and don't rub or apply pressure. If you screw up, langka or leveler will get the repair paint off and you can start over again. Do the clear coat last, after you're satisfied. Afterwards, buff, polish, glaze, and wax.

    Thanks for the advice.
    I'll try the paint leveler tomorrow.
    So should I apply the basecoat and then smooth it down through whatever method. And then apply the lacquer and smooth that down as well, is that what the polish will do?

    I think I paid around $18 for the 2 stage kit, which I think has 12ml in each bottle.

    Right. When the base coat is done it should be slightly below flush with the old clear coat, and then level the clearcoat flush with the old surface. Wait a coupla days before you buff it. The buffing will blend it all together and remove any hazing from the leveler. For fine scratches you can use a toothpick instead of the brush.

    I see you have a V70, what engine do you have?
    Any upgrades?
    I have a 95 850 turbo wagon with an IPD chip. It doesn't handle like a bimmer but it feels like a tank! I love these cars.

    Thats not too bad I think I might drop by the $tealership tomorrow and get some. I have some small scratches I need to take care of.

    I just have the normally aspirated I5. I bought it after I wrecked my e34. I moved here (eastern CT.) from Texas, and since we have snow and black ice starting in Nov. and through March, I needed a good safe snowmobile.

    (not that the e34 wasn't safe, I spun it on black ice and hit a guardrail doing 75mph. I then drove the car to the other side of the road, safe and sound, and waited for the wrecker. All of the doors opened and shut, but the frame sacrificed itself, and it was totalled)

    I really like the v70, and the automatic tranny makes it decent enough, even without the turbo. With snow tires, the 540iT is OK, but in general, it's a pretty crappy snow car- not just from a handling perspective, but also from the wear and tear from salt, sand, and other winter menaces. I still drive it in the cold, just not when there's a foot of snow on the roads. The Volvo looks good, needs no attention, gets 25mpg around town and 33-35mpg on the highways. The seats are fantastic. The handling is so-so, but I don't really throw it around. Even my e39 is nowhere near how sweet my e34 540 was (sniff) when it came to handling.
