No, its a common fault with the E34. Because the harness bends at the hinge area of the lid, repetitive opening and closing of the trunk lid leads to the wires breaking.

I had to fix that same thing on a customers car yesterday (don't try soldering them when you're laying in the trunk, molten solder HURTS). I think I'll check mine tomorrow.
