over the rockers would be the easy way to go.
removing the rubbized texture, or smoothing it out would be a lot of work.
Has anyone changed the rocker panels/skirts of their early E34 to the ones from a later E34? I'm not sure what year they changed from the factory but for example, my '89 has the dimpled, textured ones and all the pics I've seen of '92's have smooth ones. If it's feasible, I'd like to swap mine to have the smooth panels because I like the look better. Painting aside, could this be considered a DIY project?

Vee ave vays of dealing vid your kind...........
95 e34 had the skirts. Look for for a wrecked car and buy all the parts including clips. Skirts new may cost over $500.

So assuming I can get all the parts, would you consider it a bolt-on or something that I'd have to have a body shop do? I'm reasonably competent with tools and doing things myself, but I have no problem accepting when something is beyond my capabilities.
Pretty simple and easy. Some hole drilling for the grommits. I got a pair from a junker, and it took me about 1.5 hours for both sides. Mine came off a 92 e34. Good luck.
