    Default Fuel Level Gauge.

Anyone fix a fuel level sender in the fuel tank? I have a little problem when my fuel tank is a little shy on fuel. Maybe just a little above 1/4 tank it will always drop to E with light on.

I acutally removed the fuel pump and sender this weekend and looks like you NEED to invest in a new sender unit. I was thinking the float contacts and wires which the float rides on is at fault. I didnt want to break anything so I just looked at it for a bit(5 hours) and didnt see a way to take it apart.

    Any Insight is much appreciated.

I have exactly the same fault. I've come to the same conclusion, time for a new one.

I have a similar problem, my fuel level LED's dont light up when I get low on fuel. Kinda annoying. ASTON, is that part of the fuel pump or a diffrent system?

I managed to get mine apart and clean the conductive wires, but it only made a small difference. I think BMW revised the design of the part, maybe the newer ones work properly for longer.

I just keep more than a quarter of a tank in it.

Shogun, thanks for the link very much. Found out that I have the updated fuel sender(reinforced at top and different design at bottom. I didnt want to tamper with that nut at the bottom because I didnt have a spare incase something broke. Now I guess Ill order one up and take that sender apart sometime next week. Thanks alot.

I checked the wiring diagram and the "light for the low fuel level and the output from the sender is sent to the on-board comp then to the inst. pack.

If the light doesnt work at all then(just looking at the diagram) they may be an open from the light back to the sender. theres about 3 to four connections with a few splices. Maybe there is an open from the splice in the inst to the bulb itself. All just assumptions. I would personally start at the sender since they are problematic and shogun posted that great link.
