Default Best OEM short shifter??? is it the Z8?

I want a shorter shifter but not a drastic one... No UCC neither as it is too expensove.

Does everyone agree on the Z8 one? What about the Z3 1.9 one?

Should I just drop the transmission and change the flywheel.... Hummm

I like my z8 shifter. Martin had a really short one and went to the z8. Can't remember exactly what he had. Martin?

The z8 very much shortens up the throw without feeling like a little nubbin.

I'd try the euro e36 m3 shifter with the metal cup.

I have the z8 shifter & miss the mz3 shifter that wore out. The mz3 developed grooves in the plastic cup. The z8 shifter is better than the stock 535 shifter, but I think it is vague, with all new bushings & hardware.

I like my regular E36 M3 lever. Had a UUC shortshifter before and hated it. Way too notchy!

I put the MZ3 shifter along with a flywheel and clutch kit from a e28 535i into my car last summer. It really helped, but....

There is a little more driveline rattle. Not too bad though. Definitely worth the increase in HP and seat-of-your-pants feel.

As for the shifter, it was nice and tight when I first put it in, but now it is a little loose. The throw is just right, but the fact that the shifter is a little looser than I would like... I don't know. The shifter was 40 bucks from BMA, and the UUC shifter was almost 300, but if money was no object I would go for the UUC shifter obviously.

Does anyone want to explain to me the point of a short shifter? Most of the time I find myself waiting for the engine to match rpms before letting the clutch go so I really don't see how it would reduce the shifting speed.

Often, people also have lightweight fly's also for quicker rev matching, but mainly I think it is for the "sportinig" feel.
