    Default Two (hopefully) minor problems

Hey guys, on my way down to LA right now from oregon. Noticed a couple of things with my e34

    1) at certain times, mainly when going up hill, in Drive it can't seem to switch to the next gear. It jumps up and down between 2500 and 3000 rpm until i force it into third gear.
    2) When breaking at 60 mph the car starts to shake. This seems similar to the well known 60mph shimmy caused by bad thrust/control arms. However, i have no problem accelerating. It's only during breaking, and only at roughly that speed. It's fine at higher or lower speeds.

    Any ideas on either one?
    Thanks!

I'm not very experienced... and dont know much...
    1) Maybe fluid? check tranny fluid, under stress might not shift well.
    2) Uneven break pads, break fine but when under stress uneven pads make a difference?

    Maybe i'm just a fool

    1) search "pendulum shifting" (sp?)

    2) Thrust arms or loose suspension componants.

    Ok, did the search.
If it's the pendulum shifting problem, there is no way I can do the work myself given that I live in an apartment complex in LA. Any idea on how much the repair would cost?
Is this something I can avoid fixing (for now) or at least simply shift into S3 everytime I notice this?
I noticed the problem in May, driving from LA to Oregon, but simply haven't had time to look into it. Now I figured while i'm in a hotel I might as well ask you guys

I had an oil change done yesterday (yep, took it in to a shop, didn't have the time myself) and I believe they topped up the trans fluid. Is there a transmission cleaner I should try as well?
