Default Is the cabin filter scented?

Every once in a while when I turn the recirculator off and turn the temperature up over 72, I can hear the compressor get a little break and for about the first 3 or 4 minutes of the new temperature setting there's a really pleasant smell coming from the vents. I don't wanna say its cologne-like, but its not exactly cheap air freshner smell either. It's like a comfortable median. Are the cabin filters scented or something? (assuming they are, I'm guessing that the dealer-bought ones would be and not the store-bought aftermarkets)

They contain activated carbon so there should be no smell what so ever with a new microfilter........

Bacteria can grow on the evap core or in the bottom of the housing if the drain is blocked........ and It smells WRONG!! (DEAD wet dog!.........Poo YUCK!!)

It could be ozone or anti-freeze that you're smelling. Which is probably not a good thing long term. Air fresheners use electrostatic discharges to create ozone(O3) molecules which make the air smell sweet, although it's toxic to you. And you already know what anti-freeze smells like. Neither of which is a good thing. I have not found a cabin filter that is scented unless your mechanic has a flair for the dramatic.

Sounds like you smell coolant and your heater core is in need of replacment.
