Default Yellowish waxy crud removal from intake manifold

There is yellowish waxy crud on the intake manifold and surrounding areas of the engine.

Is there a simple, easy way to remove this stuff? Solvent? Steel wool? What works best?

I had the best results with my sandblaster. Took it right off.

Of course removing the manifold, cleaning, sandblasting, and then hours more cleaning to ensure no sand ends up in the engine (even after sealing up the holes prior to blasting) might not be everybody's idea of a good time.
