Yup. Corroded or failed connector, failed sensor wiring, corroded connections at the ECU, or a bad ECU.Originally Posted by ElNormo
For the past year or so, my dash display has complained of "oil level sensor" when I start or stop the engine. After putting up with it this long, I finally bought a new one from BMA and had it installed when the car was in for other work.
Problem is... it's still complaining!
Is there anything other than a bad sensor that could cause this message?
Thanks,
Norman

Pleeeeeese fill out your profile and put some details of your car in your title or sig. If you have an M60 engine there was a recent post about this issue.

Thanks, i've been meaning to do this. I usually put more information in the original post. Should be done now.Originally Posted by wingman
In any case, the car is a 1989 535i E34, with the E30 engine.
I believe my trusty Bentley manual indicates how to troubleshoot the sensor with a multimeter. Do the wires run straight from the harness to the sensor itself? I suppose I could check these with the multimeter as well.
Any other ideas? I've searched these boards in the past, and didn't find any related tips. If I missed something, i apologize!
Thanks
