    Default Cabin filter / Micro filter

    Why should you replace it? In my case the car wouldn't warm up at all. 7 miles on high and still not warm and this was only at 45 degrees F. I could feel some heat blowing but not enough to warm the joint up.

    New style Mehle cabin filter (sorry no pic) is all paper with foam around the exterior. No plastic but fits right in like the one with the plastic frame, seems to seal better but I am not on the inside looking around the stuff. I guess if careless you could mess it up easy but it went in pretty easy. Had a ton of stuff to vacuum out of the filter housing which reminded me of wanting to vacuum the cowl a lot more often.

    While I was at it before the cold front I cleaned the windshield with a rag and lacquer thinner and then applied aquapel. I absolutely hate having to use wipers cause they suck. If the windshield is treated it should be a clear view where regular wipers in rain sucks.

    I would be happy if my E32 750 11/88 would have a filter, unfortunately that filter was introduced later, have to clean the aircon/heater system every year, here the official information.
    Models: all except E30
    All vehicles produced 09/1991 or later (except the E30) are equipped 100% with the microfilter.
    In addition all E31 vehicles have been equipped 100% with 2 microfilters since their start of production.
    Vehicles with the microfilter are supposed to have a red "Maintenance Reminder" decal in the glove compartment.
    However, on vehicles produced during 09/1991 - 05/1992, many of the labels were inadvertantly left off. These vehicles are, however, equipped with a microfilter.
    Some vehicles produced prior to 09/1991 may be equipped with a microfilter,and can be positively identified by the presence of the "Maintenance Reminder" decal in the glove compartment.

    How is the parts situation in Columbia? Are there many E34?
    Here are some links which you need

    I live in Barranquilla - Colombia, there’s few e34 or e39 (I’m not sure) in my country and parts are very difficult to get.
    I just bought the car a week ago, a sudden rise razed in a strong rain with 50 cars more and I’m repairing and trying to get parts

    Bear in mind that the Microfilter was not designed in the E34 IHKR system, so when they added it they shoe-horned it in and re-designed the fan resistor (from an expensive transistorised unit to a more efficient/reliable logic module and wire-wound side-mounted resistor block)

    Always vacuum out the leaves and debris during the change and make sure no leaves are lodged on the fan resistor block that inserts into the side of the fan box. it can take <5s to get hot, and they can burn and catch fire.

    If you get frustrated, take heart: On RHD it's far worse. I just replaced the AC expansion valve, AC system o-rings, cabin filter and coolant o-rings into the heat exchanger matrix on one. It took me over a day under the dash and now I feel more broken than a snake trying to cross a busy road.

    On a RHD car, things are so obstructed by an immovable steering column that they split the filter in half (special part number too) so you can wrangle it in/out in 2 separate pieces. It's still a nightmare to do whether going in or out and that's with a lot more components removed than the official procedure calls for.

    You will no doubt also have to do the auxiliary radiator fan resistor, (unless it measures 0.5 ohms)- you get to it by removing the front bumper. They are all toasted after 10 years of use and the AC does not work properly without them. I can post you one or you can buy from amazon/ebay easily enough (100W, 0.5 ohms wire-wound resistor).

    Also if flooded, make sure you drain water from the transmission, diff and even the engine. The breathers will draw water into these parts if the car was warm when the water rose.

    In the cabin, under the floor, e34 will engorge 20L of water in each foot-well, unless you let it drain out and dry out. There are rubber bungs in the floor pan to do this. The foam under the carpet is very thick in many places, esp the front foot-wells) but it will drain, it just needs a few days and some heat.
