    Default oil recomandation

what oil should i choose for my E34 M20B20?
i think to switch to either ARAL or CASTROL.what do you guys recomend for me.The viscosity recomended by the manual is 10w-40 or 15w-40/50.
what oil is better for my engine, does one of the two brands leave sludge in the engine?
i ve also heard that a semisynthetic oil lubricate better than an mineral oil
    thanks all!

group 4 or 5 synthetic with lots of molybdenum and calcium in it

mineral oil has really bad film strength unless you jack up the viscosity.

Redline 5W30 will have the same film strengh as Syntec 15W50 and flow about twice as much oil over the camshafts, and will start a hell of a lot better.

First of all complete your profile, so that we know where you live. Or tell us at least that.
You are talking about ARAL, I think that is only available in Europe?
You can certaily imagine that there is a difference in requirements if you live in Alaska or in Kenia.

    sorry man,
    i live in romania,near ungaria
the climate has 4 seasons, and winter and summer are known to be with very low/high temperatures.

probably aral is available only in europe, because is a german brand, and it's a part of the BP group.

i thought about mobil 5w-40 also, but i'm afraid that it's very thin for my type of engine, and probably the engine will "eat"it sooner.
The idea is:can i use an synthetic oil in my M20 engine, without any risc of damaging the engine?

that is a fine choice for a synthetic. you have less risk of damage with a synthetic than conventional dino oil. that weight is also fine for use year round.
