Default Switch next to the shifter?

MY apologies for so many topics, I've had a really REALLY long day after buying this car today.

I have this switch next to my automatic shifter. I believe it says "A" on the top half and "M" on the bottom half. I tried moving the switch in both positions and the switch centers itself after pushing in either direction. I don't see any notable lights or messages so I was curious what this is?

Also, next to the information portion of the instrument cluster, I have a "E" on the right side. There looks like there's space for another letter next to it as well, but it's not lit up. What's that? o_O

mode switches, E= economy, and you can see the others in the cluster too when you flip that switch. It always goes back to E as defalut when you switch off the ignition.
