Damn I wish I had the time, money, skill to do such a job. I installed a 15" sub in my car and I still have to mount the amplifier in the trunk its just hanging on in the floor of the trunk! And that was 2 weeks ago.

Yep. that's the go. Niiiiiiiiice. I hope he writes it up properly so everyone can see how. Those headers look like a nightmare, tho since they are custom surely one would get a set made to accept a pair of snails too????

So what goes wrong with an M62?

I wonder what they cost him to make? I believe Dinan is the only tuner who makes a header for the E39 M5 and E52 Z8, and he wants $8,000!!!

According to Mike Miller in this month's Roundel Tech Talk, the main problems appear to be:

15mpg, dinky fuel tank, ZERO service information, excessive oil consumption (I believe some early E39 M5 require *special* BMW only Castrol 10-60 oil), and possible fuel pump issues.

However, the biggest issue appears to be clutch wear - lucky if you get 60,000 miles. The "fix" is the UUC Motorwerks upgrade - lightweight flywheel and 850CSi clutch kit. Expect to pay big bucks!

Also, with all that power, be ready to buy lots of tires too!

Sounds like my kinda upgrade! No point if you can't shred the tyres! No point if it doesn't use gas!

No point doing anything unless the drive train tends to wear when abused.

As for oiling problems and no info, okay I'd be worried! Let alone forking out for a pair of solid-gold headers... Nick

lubro moly also makes a 10W60 oil for S62s and the like.

if you really wanna go nuts, you can have the S62 converted into a racing spec engine, with upgraded... everything, for madly insane $$$$$$$$
