    Default Engine cutting off again

My 520i 1990 M20 is cutting off around 5000 RPM and the needle flickers and then the RPM picks back and this usually occurs on 2nd 3rd till 5th gear. MAybe bacoz on the first gear I simply zoom through the RPM range but when I start smoothing the RPM range on 1st gear it does cut-off. This thing caused my muffler to explode last week and I had it replaced and then the issue still persists.
    1) I changed the engine control module, the crank sensor and the ignition coil and it never changed.
    2) What do I need to do? Can I put the car on the diagnostics computer and will it show for such a late model any previous faults ???

What do you guys suggest I do next????

Check the distributor cap and rotor, sparkplugs and wires too (all wires from the cap to plugs have to have the same resistance), it should be ignition problem because otherwise its not very easy to blow the muffler.

BTW does she have any starting problems or can you smell fuel from the exhaust?

No there are no startup problems or any idling problem at all. This only occurs around the 5000 RPM range and till 5500 RPM. Otherwise the car is very smooth. If there is anything wrong with the cap, rotor or cables it should be all the time ?????? Any insights??

If you are running Bosch Platnum plugs, that could be the answer.

I would still check the cap/rotor, i mean its like 30min job.
If you see any black stuff on the contacts then the gap between rotor and them is too big.

Also change the fuel filter, unless you have done it recently.
