replacing engine, have some questions

I'm going to have my engine replaced in the coming week and I wanted to ask you guys what parts I should replace while the engine is out? engine and tranny mounts? Anything you guys suggest?

You really want to do all the major maintenance items, there'd be a list on bmwe34.net- but for starters-

1. All heater hoses- unless you know how to tell if they are relatively new- and are sure.
2. Water pump and thermostat
3. Oil pump and chain, sprockets
4. Timing chain, tensioner and sprockets or belt
5. Pan gasket
6. Vacuum hoses
7. BMW coolant - with a decent block, heater core and radiator flush
8. belts
9. Drain and replace Transmission fluid, filter AND power steering fluid (Synthetic is a nice touch)
10. O2 sensor
11. Main seals (front and rear)- plus transmission output seal

Stuff that is nice to do (unless what you have is shot)

• fan clutch
• filters
• plugs
• ignition wires
• rotor cap+button
• Differential oil
• Engine and transmission mounts
• And of course the dogbones are always worth checking
