Default Brake light switch; thermostat bleed screw

    Howdy Everyone,

Can anybody tell me where, on an E34 540i V8 with the M60 engine, to find a bleed screw to bleed air after changing the coolant? I can't see anything remotely like a bleed screw on the thermostat housing. There is no bleed screw on the separate coolant header tank.

Also, does anyone know the exact location of the brake light switch? Again, I'm having trouble finding a switch near the brake pedal! The car is a right hand drive....

    Thanks!

You need to pull the lower panel off, then you'll see a switch on the pedal arm.

The m60 is self-bleeding. Make sure the small return line that runs from the top of the radiator to the reservoir neck isn't clogged, that would keep it from bleeding. There should be a steady telltale stream of coolant with the cap of when the engine is warm but not hot & running. If it is clogged, you can clear it with some weedeater line or compressed air.

If you do the stop light switch make sure to buy OEM. I went through 4 aftermarkets and two tickets over a few weeks and ended up at the stealership. Now all is well...
