    Default Translate these codes?

    Hey guys,

I have an e39 540 that gets a check engine light when the RPMs reach the upper numbers.

    The codes are:
75: Misfiring with cylinder cutout, total
64: Misfiring with cylinder cutout, cyl. 2
62: Misfiring, sum, relevant to exhaust gas
    51: Misfire, cyl. 2

Can anybody tell me what these mean or what possible causes are??

    Thanks!

It means that cyl #2 has a misfire. Could be caused by any number of things. Swap the plug to Cylinder 1 and the coil to cylinder 3. clear codes ad see where it comes back to.

You can do the same with the injector, but those will often show a failure with a resistance check.

    Thanks.
I did swap the coils - same. Misfire - cylinder 2.

I figured that it all means theres a misfire, but they were confusing because i wasnt sure what the "cylinder cutout" and "relevant to exhaust gases" meant.

Assuming coil AND injector are OK, what other possible causes are there?

    Spark plug?

After that. make sure the injector seals are good and search for vacuum leaks. If every thing is good, get out the compression tester.

    The plug seems ok.
Could this be caused by a clogged cat?

Cat should affect all the cylinders on its bank. Seems fine is not enough, this is one of those "basics" that when skiped can haunt you horribly.

Always cover the basics before you move on. Every experienced tech learns this the hard way at some point.

Pull spark plug #2 put a coil on it ground the plug threaded portion to the head or valve cover crank the motor see if it sparks.
